Ahh, Minnesota. Known for the water, the beautiful landscapes (those blues + greens), the scenic attractions - a perfect location for your wedding.

As a seasoned wedding photographer, I've photographed at stunning estates, venues on the water, cool vintage buildings, and I'm sharing with you a few of my favorites. I've chosen to highlight these few because they have scenic portrait locations, have a good flow for the comfort of your guests, and offer something unique. I'm sure you'll find one perfectly tailored for you day.

As you look through these galleries, I hope you find the venue that seems like the perfect fit for you. Say 'I do' with a backdrop of rolling hills, or with a view of many lakes. Dance the night away on the patio under the twinkly lights. Your guests will feel right at home with how beautifully you decorated and thought of every last detail.

And when you drive by or visit that area as husband and wife, you'll always be brought back to that day.

THE PERFECT VENUE

It's the day of your wedding and sunlight is streaming through the tress along a winding gravel driveway. the air is fresh and you can see the lake in the distance...

Should we both get ready at the same location?

FAQ

If at all possible, yes! We'll make sure you and your groom don't see each other before your first look. Most venues have put a lot of thought into the bride and groom getting ready areas, so that shouldn't be a problem. This makes things a bit easier for my second shooter and I to capture your getting ready details.

A FEW OF MY MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHOOTING WEDDINGS AT THESE VENUES

Where do you recommend taking our family portraits?

I recommend taking family portraits nearby the ceremony location that way your parents, grand parents and other immediate family members have a meeting place right from the recessional. This will be a place I determine at the beginning of the day so I can tell family members as I see them. A place with an option for shade is a good idea! I have favorite portrait locations at each venue.

What time should we schedule our ceremony to begin?

I prefer ceremonies a bit later in the day, around 5 or 6pm so there's plenty of time for your first look and to enjoy time with your family and friends as much as possible. Doing this means the majority of your photos are taken before the ceremony so you don't have to leave your guests waiting and you can get right to enjoying your party.

What if it rains? Where will the ceremony be?

If it rains on your wedding day, you'll think back and think it wouldn't have been the same with out it! Every venue has a backup option that is indoors or covered that we can make look just as incredible as your original plan. Your pictures will look amazing and with our weather, I'm sure it'll clear up in no time. Plus I always keep a set of clear umbrellas in my car!

How long should we plan to take bride & groom portraits?

I love working with my couples to create a custom timeline for your wedding day. I generally break up the bride + groom portraits into two sessions. One after your ceremony that lasts about 30 minutes, and another during golden hour that last about 15 minutes. If you do a first look, you'll get an additional 30 minutes to an hour for portraits and/or just to hang out!

I've been thinking about a sparkler exit. Should we do one?

That's totally up to you! As long as they're executed safely and your venue allows for them to happen, why not. Most sparkler exits are actually staged because they need to happen earlier in the night when your guests can be coordinated. So you'll do the pretend exit and then head back in to finish your party.
